Hunt Africa
With

I am going to take an opportunity and introduce you to my friend, and one of my Professional Hunters in Africa.   His name  is Andrew Schoeman.  I have been hunting with Andrew for 12 years now or better, over the years Andrew has become far more than just one of my PH's that I turn to for a hunting trip, he has become a very good friend.

Andrew comes by hunting naturally, his Father, Japie Schoeman, is one of the "Old Time" PHs from many years ago, being friends and hunting partners with many of the greats such as Tony Sanchez.   Andrew grew up with and around hunting all his life, and has learned from the very best in the business.    We had the good fortune of sharing a camp a few years ago with Japie.

A Note from Andrew

Early one morning, at the young and tender age of 6, my father woke me up and said, “Son get dressed, we’re going hunting and its time you shoot your first animal”. With great excitement and enthusiasm I got my khaki clothes on and a few moments later I was sitting in his land cruiser with my bare feet and the .222 between my legs ready for what the day had in store for me. I had been waiting for this moment ever since I could remember. After I had shot my first warthog that day with my father, I realised that hunting is the most exhilarating experience on this magnificent continent of ours’ where my family of many generations have lived.

While growing up I took every opportunity to accompany my father and his clients on safari – despite school teachers scolding me on Monday mornings for having not attended the school activities over the weekend, this did not prevent me from staying out of the bush and having fun with my dad. I had far more pleasure in shooting impala or zebra for bait for the next client who would be coming on a leopard or lion hunt, rather than attend boring school activities! There was never a moment that I was willing to be left behind in the vehicle when it was time to track the old buffalo bull in the dry Mopani veldt - I always wanted to be in a part of the action, whereby I was learning and gaining experiencing every step of the hunt that would later on in my life prove invaluable.

When asked what I wanted to be when I grew up one day, there was no doubt in my mind when I replied “I want to be a professional hunter”.  After graduating from high school in 1995, I immediately pursued my dream of becoming a professional hunter. I started working as an apprentice for one of my dad’s friends who had a hunting concession in Mozambique, and at the age of 21, I obtained my professional hunting license. At that time I had gained invaluable experience and confidence to start guiding my own clients.

I am fortunate  to have been a full time professional hunter and I still feel privileged today. Nothing gives me more satisfaction and pleasure than guiding a hunting client for his or her longed prized trophy. Throughout my career I’ve been fortunate to have met many people in the hunting industry. I have hunted in many places in Africa, from the Cape in South Africa all the way to Tanzania. Today I have gained the necessary contacts, hunting areas and knowledge to assure every safari to be a great success.

I was fortunate enough to spend time with Andrew's Father,  Japie Schoeman.   In a recent Article in July/August 2013 African Outfiter, Japie is featured in the "Around the Campfire" series.......   Below, please find Around the Campfire with Japie Schoeman.

MISSION STATEMENT

My main goal is to provide you with a memorable, hassle free African experience. With my expertise, I will provide you with the opportunity of taking excellent quality trophies by hunting in a fair chase manner. With the contacts that I have, I will take you to the most sought after hunting areas for the trophy you desire, and with my knowledge I will make your hunt an exciting and memorable experience.

There are a few important notes that I have learned over the years that are very important to a hunting client while on safari – an ice cold drink after a long walk in the hot African sun, a hot water shower, a delicious tasting meal and a comfortable bed to end off an unforgettable day of hunting. Be assured that you will be taken very good care of when on safari with me. The most rewarding feeling for me is when a client arrives as a guest and leaves as a friend!

I hope to visit you one day, and reminisce over the many trophies that we have hunted together and be proud of what we have achieved!

One thing is for sure, I would not be hunting with Andrew for 12 plus years if I had not had a good experience, each and every time we went on an adventure!   And we have been on some great adventures.

A few of my Adventures with Andrew.

Andrew is very good with first time hunters, first time Safaris, and kids.   His patience also extends to more difficult grown ups and even experienced shooters as well, yours truly included!   My Wife Jaun being a first time hunter was completely comfortable hunting with Andrew, and took her first Kudu, Oryx, and Zebra all with Andrew.

When it came time for Matthew and Mark David, my sons, to go on their first safari, there was no doubt it would be with Andrew.   They had the time of their lives.   Andrew was right there with them every step of the way.

On our most recent adventure, our 8 year old, Mercedes, had a great time on safari, and Andrew worked with her extensively.

Daryl recently hunted with Andrew, being his first time in Africa this is what he has to say;

When I was looking for A PH to hunt with on my first African safari, I contacted several outfitters. Michael recommended Andrew to me, so I sent him an email also. Andrew replied promptly and provided options that would suit my intentions. He was responsive and helpful, so I decided to hunt with him. Besides, recommendations from those you trust are hard to beat.

In July 2011 I hunted with Andrew in Zimbabwe for Cape buffalo and hippo, and in South Africa for kudu, warthog, zebra and giraffe. Andrew certainly knows his stuff. He is an accomplished tracker, excellent at spotting game and works hard to ensure selection of the right animal before you take the shot.

I successfully took each of the game species on my list and Andrew was genuinely pleased for me each time I bagged a trophy. As a bonus, he also took really good trophy photos.

I often asked Andrew about other hunts he’d guided on and really enjoyed listening to anecdotes from his numerous hunts over the years. Many were humorous, some were eye-wideners, but all were very interesting. His stories also reflected his depth of experience and his intimate knowledge of the various game species.

Andrew is very easy to get along with and also very accommodating. I elected to drive, rather than fly, back to South Africa with him after my Zimbabwe hunt so that I could see more of Africa at ground level. Despite the long distance, Andrew was happy to make some detours so that I could see some sites of interest and cultural significance. At the end of my South African hunt, I had some days left, so we did some interesting things to round out my time. I’ve always been fascinated by rhino, so Andrew drove me to a place where I could sneak up on some white rhino with my camera. Fantastic.

Whether you’re a first time African hunter like myself, or an avid Africa hunter like Michael, you’ll find hunting with Andrew a pleasure. Andrew is a PH who will work hard to ensure you have an enjoyable and successful safari.

Hunting Areas

I do most of my plains game hunts in the Limpopo province of South Africa where I have hunting rights on several private game reserves. Although these game reserves are fenced, these areas are vast and offer fantastic hunting the way it should be done. Tracking a big eland bull from a water hole or climbing hills whilst glancing for that elusive kudu bull to name but a few are things that will bring great excitement and an adrenalin rush to our clients.   Or catching a glimpse of that trophy kudu of a lifetime!

Baobab Safaris obtains hunting rights from a concession owner in Zimbabwe where I do most of my big game hunts. This area is truly magnificent and borders the spectacular Lake Kariba, well known for its elusive hard-fighting tiger fish and spectacular sunsets. Apart from the big herds of buffalo and elephant in the area, you will be assured of seeing hippo and crocodile in abundance.

I invite you to take a look at my trophy gallery that we’ve hunted over the years in the various areas.
